ALWAYS IN CHAINS
Acknowledgement:The Thought Behind This Poem As Composed By The Composer (self)Is Taken From The Famous Quote: "Man Is Born Free But Every Where He Is In Chains."
When I was born from my Mother's Womb
And got freed from The Umbilical Cord
I thought I had come to A World Anew
That would keep me free from The Chains Of All.
Little Did I Realise then
That the world would be so different
That my thought would remain but a dream
And that I could only be bonded free.
My mother's care in my infant days
Kept me chained along my way
And as I started attending school
My father's reigns saw me through.
During the later days of my student life
Twas my teacher's turn to monitor me
There was little that I could do
Without his eagle eyes probing on me
As I turned to work for my living
Twas my Senior's turn to oversee me
This he did to my utter dismay
Made me dance to his changing needs.
As I tasted the marital bliss
I thought I could do as I wished
But alas even this was not to be
With the demands my beloved placed on me.
AS I grew old and lost my strength
On my kith and kin I became dependent
Without their support I could not live
In silence I prayed for my escape at will.
As if these chains were not known
Society I lived played its role
Rituals and practices I least believed
Were still performed for those not seen by me.
If this is true for others as well
Is this life worth living, I ask myself
Pray tell me when a man is born free
Why should he live his life chained like me?
